Hangar19 Innovate UK V2X Innovation Programme Case Study

V2VNY (Phase 2) Optimising AC bidirectional charging for fleet V2V, V2B or V2G applications.

Revolution9 led the project management and final report delivery, supporting Hangar19 plus a wider consortium to deliver a major Innovate UK-funded V2X charging programme.

Client Overview

Hangar19

Hangar19 is a UK-based electro-mobility solutions provider specialising in the design, deployment and optimisation of EV charging infrastructure for fleets, workplaces and public networks. Through this project, Hangar19 led the development and testing of an AC-V2X charging solution designed to support vehicle-to-building, vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-grid applications in real-world conditions.

The V2VNY Phase 2 programme brought together charger development, live deployment, software integration, optimisation modelling and user insight work to test how AC bidirectional charging could perform in real-world settings. Led by Hangar19, the project was delivered with partners including CrowdCharge, DriveElectric, Jaguar Land Rover, Oxfordshire County Council, Electric Corby and Grid Beyond.

V2VNY Project Goals

Across the programme, 35 chargers were deployed across 14 organisations covering fleet, staff and public charging use cases. This gave the project a broad real-world test bed for understanding how AC-V2X charging could work in practice, where it could create value, and what would be needed to support wider roll-out.

Our Approach

Revolution9 led the project management, helping to coordinate partners, track progress and support reporting across the programme. Alongside this, we led the stakeholder engagement activity and commercial modelling for the post-project commercialisation.

Project management

We led end-to-end project management across a complex, multi-partner consortium, ensuring alignment, progress tracking and effective risk management throughout. When a key project partner ceased trading during delivery, we rapidly restructured the programme, reallocating responsibilities and maintaining momentum to ensure successful delivery against time and budget constraints.

Stakeholder engagement

We supported the identification, onboarding and management of a diverse range of project sites, enabling real-world deployment across multiple use cases. Alongside this, we designed and delivered both quantitative and qualitative research activities to capture user insights, operational feedback and behavioural responses, providing a robust evidence base for project findings.

Commercial modelling

We developed a detailed commercial model to assess the viability of AC-V2X across different use cases. This included analysing potential cost savings for end users, system value streams and infrastructure costs, while also considering how market conditions, regulation and technology evolution could impact future commercial opportunities.

Final report delivery

We led the development of a comprehensive final report, synthesising technical, commercial and user insight findings into a clear and compelling narrative. The report, spanning over 100 pages, met Innovate UK requirements and effectively communicated the project’s outcomes, learnings and recommendations for future scale-up.

Outcomes

Future Impact

Building on the success of the programme, Hangar19 has established a dedicated commercial vehicle to take forward its V2X offering. The strength of the project outcomes also supported the successful award of a further Innovate UK project focused on domestic V2G, enabling continued innovation and progression towards commercial deployment.
